Profile
Mandarin Museum is located along the St. Johns River in Walter Jones Historical Park, a 10-acre park in the City of Jacksonville park system. The Museum’s mission is to share the stories of Mandarin’s history, culture, and natural resources. Permanent exhibits include: “Always the River,” featuring a history of Mandarin’s settlement over centuries and the river’s central role; the “Maple Leaf Shipwreck,” which tells the story of this National Historic Landmark Union Army shipwreck from the U.S. Civil War; and “The Untold Story of Black Mandarin” that chronicles 250 years of Black culture and community in the Mandarin area. Paved pathways throughout Walter Jones Historical Park wind through Mandarin’s historic oak canopy, leading guests to 19th-century destinations that place Mandarin at the heart of the historical narrative. Tours include stops at the 1875 Webb-Jones Farmhouse, 1876 Webb Barn, 1892 Losco Winery, and 1898 St. Joseph’s Mission Schoolhouse for African American Children. Mandarin Museum is open Wednesday – Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free. Guided tours are a suggested $7 donation per person.
